THE BATTLE OF THE ISLANDS. MYKONOS v IBIZA GUMBALL 3000 2019

Gumball 3000 is celebrating it’s 21st Birthday this year. The rally runs from Mykonos to Ibiza from 7 June – 15 June. The route and dates for each checkpoint are shown below.  It is an epic route spanning 11 countries and 3000 miles.

120 cars are participating in the rally this year. Some very special cars have entered, ranging from  Hypercars and Supercars to Classic cars. One of the cars I am most interested in seeing is the road legal Aston Martin Vulcan.

A full list of cars and teams can be found on the Gumball 3000 Foundation charity grid page.  At the time of posting they had already raised almost £315,000. Team 115 – driving a spectacular red Pagani Huayra – will start on pole position, having raised £80,368.50

Like last year, in London, I have managed to organise press accreditation for the Barcelona checkpoint.  This will be my fourth time photographing the rally. Fingers crossed I’ll get some good photos of the cars and people. I am very grateful to Gumball 3000 for providing me with a pass. Without the pass the photography is more difficult. What I learnt photographing the #LondontoTokyo start line in London was that you have to look like you belong so you don’t get continually stopped and questioned. The wrist band is a big help.

Over the last eighteen years of following Gumball 3000 I have met and spoken with a number of participants and fans of the rally online. It will be fun to meet some of the friends I have made through Gumball 3000 in person.
